In The Heart Of Allegheny Country:
Warren, PA

Warren PA Bridge.jpg (60799 bytes)

Traffic moves across a bridge to enter Warren, PA where oil refining is The Big Business.  To the lower right, a fisherman is seen angling for a Saturday afternoon reward in the Allegheny River.  This is the heart of "Allegheny Country," where goals of industry, recreation, and good living are balanced every day in harmony with a clean environment.  At Allegheny Environmental Services, Inc. part of our job is to help protect that environmental balance.

The Kinzua Dam:
435,000 Kilowatts Of Hydroelectric Power...Plus Recreation, & Land Protection

About six miles east of Warren, the Kinzua Dam was built by the United States Army Corp of Engineers to regulate the Allegheny River over more than a hundred mile stretch.  A 25-mile lake (Allegheny Reservoir) was created  that offers camping, fishing, and boating experiences bordered by the federal government's Allegheny National Forest.  During daytime hours in summer months the bridge roadway that spans the top of the dam is open for tourist pedestrian traffic.  Also during summer, a Visitor's Center  is open to explain the hydroelectric pump-storage operation and show trails and recreational resources.

And - - - An Environmental Storm.

He lost his life early in the Revolutionary War.  Now, the town with his name fights another battle.  To preserve a prosperous downtown merged to a beautiful historic district in face of an impending invasion of  The Nation's SuperStore.

This possible conflict has played out on other grounds with slightly different players.  The result, observers say, is predictable.  But Warren, PA has had such success with environmental balance that residents hope for a satisfactory outcome here.  Time will tell.

With a population near 10,000 Warren, PA has a nice balance between business (oil refining, timber, electrical, manufacturing and service) and residential.   The retail sectors of Warren serve an area much larger and significant than the town itself.  There is great diversity.

Established in 1795,  the present Warren fits the tag, "Hometown, USA."
