Lockport Devil Dog Detachment
Marine Corps League

Lockport Devil Dog Detachment is taking on a several projects in Lockport. We met with the Lockport Common Council and received their approval to proceed on two such projects.
One project is erecting a new sign above the entrance to Grossi Park, and lighting the flagpole there. The sign was installed during the summer.
At Ida Fritz Park, we are working to put up a Gazebo or Bandstage type shelter, across the street from the Navy-Marine Club, in memory of the Lockport Marines killed during the Korean Conflict. The shelter was up in early Fall and a dedication is planned for Spring 2002. Much more work on the Gazebo is also planned for Spring.
We are looking for any relative of David Colopy,
one of two Lockport Marines killed in the Korean War.
Anyone with information please e-mail

And what better place to study the paperwork than in the relaxing lounge at the Navy Marine Club?
The local detachment has a changing and interesting story of community involvement to tell on these web pages in future months.
The most recent event, remembered by many, was the free community concert put on this past summer at The Palace Theatre by the Marine Corps Band. That was a part of the Department of New York Marine Corps League 69th Convention held right here in Lockport under the sponsorship of the local detachment. The local detachment, along with the Western NY area Detachments, including besides Lockport: Niagara Frontier Cheektowaga, Conrad Kania,Tonawandas, Bett-Toomey, Lackawanna, Lakeshore, Hamburg, and Hansen Bros. Batavia.
The detachment also sponsors a local Little League team during the summer months. Plans are now underway for the Veterans Day Observance on Saturday, November 11th and the Pearl Harbor Day Observance on December 7th.

conference rooms at the Navy Marine Club which is filled with records of Marine history on
the walls.
Members of the local detachment were a part of much of that history. Some members can trace their Marine Corps history back over fifty years! Oh, the "first-person" stories they have to tell!
Here at the website we plan to bring you new bits of our local Marine Corps history on a regular basis. Herb and Steve will be going through the detachment photo scrapbook selecting pictures (and stories) to share.
