Lockport Devil Dog Detachment
Marine Corps League

Market Street, LowertownThe Lockport Navy-Marine Club, now on Park Avenue was previously located along Market Street in Lowertown.
The building shown at left was a former satellite station for the Lockport Police Department. When the police moved out, in about 1948, the building was sold to the Navy-Marine Club for $1. Among the features in the old police station were holding cells with thick wooden bars. Some Lockportians may remember Bill Crego one of the LPD officers who was on duty here at opening, and when the station was shut down.
Not quite explicit in the picture is the sign in the door to the adjacent building on the right. It reads, "Mario Barone, Funeral Director."
As is the case today, the Lockport Devil Dog Detachment of the Marine Corps League, conducts its meetings, many events, and social activities at the Navy-Marine Club.
Were you a member of the Marine Corps League at this time? Do you remember the clubrooms? Do you remember activities there, perhaps with a father or friend? We'd love to hear your stories! E-Mail to us:

The Lockport Devil Dog Detachment of the Marine Corps League has been around Lockport for as long as most can remember.
This picture shows members of our detachment on parade along Washburn Street in an area most won't recognize.
The marchers are approaching Walnut Street on Washburn, marching north. The picture was taken from an upper story at the Harrison Radiator building. Of course, Don's Grocery is long gone. Some of this area is now where a gas and convenience store is located.
