Lockport Pioneer Jessie Hawley deserves better. And so do the people of Lockport. The north end of Hawley Street remains closed. Maintenance just got to be too much of a chore for the city on this section of Hawley Street so city bureaucrats closed it...."just for the winter" about a decade ago. Now, it's closed year around. And left to decay. It is the story of far too much public property in Lockport. While city politicians talk about building new properties they fail to maintain what they already have. The picture below is of Hawley Street looking south from Glenwood Avenue.
This sad picture of neglect brings to mind that politicians also want to close parts of the south end of Hawley Street to turn it over for use as a parking lot for County bureaucrats at the Court House. A previous pictorial shows the situation.
