The 2002 Fourth Annual Garlic Festival of St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church has evolved into a huge success and a Lockport classic festival. Held on Sunday, August 4th, the family event drew thousands to the corner of Park and Bristol Avenues. More than twenty restaurants from throughout Lockport and Niagara-Erie counties had food stands at the festival with $2 samplings of some of their best best food offerings. The only condition was that garlic was to be a part of the non-desert offerings.
Besides the main attraction of food, the church festival features games including a boccie tournament. This year there was a cake-eating and spaghetti-eating contest. Included in the entertainment was live Italian music provided by The Formula which performed under a tent in front of an outdoor dance area.
Besides the eating, drinking, games, and music a significant secondary attraction was the opportunity to meet old friends. To provide for this there were two large tents for folks to sit down and talk family and old times while working away at their favorite foods and drinks.
