The flag at
Veteran's Park across from the hospital was at half mast on Tuesday, May 30th, for the
observance of the real Memorial Day. The long weekend, which began for many on
Friday, was extended by many right through Tuesday. And why not? As our
picture suggests, everything was beautiful in Lockport.
The historic Veteran's Monument is the main feature in our portfolio of pictures on Veteran's Park (in our continuing series of pictorials on city parks) Here you'll be see some views and read some history...that most have never experienced before! It's another pictorial exclusive here at The Picture Of Lockport!
Flags were flying all over Lockport Memorial Day weekend. There were parades, picnics, and parties. And there was even time for reflection on the original purpose of Memorial Day: to recognize those who paid "The Supreme Sacrifice in standing up for our country's interest worldwide.
Another reminder were the flags showing in front of the Taylor & Reynolds Funeral Home at 70 Niagara Street. The corner of Niagara and Transit is a landmark for Lockport. The neat grounds of the funeral home have included a front flag display for as long as most can remember. The green on the ground, the fresh white and black contrast of the building, and the color of the flags of our country made for a Memorial Day picture the Lockport Page photographer couldn't past up. For those out of town, we share it with you below.
