Three New Lockport Coffee Houses

In late 2005 three new coffee houses have opened up in Lockport.  The Brewhaus, at Chestnut and Washburn Streets is seen below.  A local owner got about $125,000 in tax money to convert an old warehouse/factory into a upscale coffee house with baked goods, public computer terminals, and a light menu fare.  It lacks parking but customers seem to find ways around that by parking on the sidewalk and on the properties of nearby neighbors that do have parking lots.  Snow and winter may show us how this works out.

Two new coffee retreats have sprung up along South Transit.  The national chain, Starbucks opened in October 2005 with its usual fare and appeal to Yuppies who enjoy conversation, a variety of coffee and baked goods.  The store shares a building complex with new Radio Shack and Kay Jeweler stores that moved from across the street at the near-closed Lockport Mall.

They will compete with donut shops (not pictured), Dunkin Donuts and Tim Horton, also along the Transit Road commercial strip just a few hundred feet away.  Add to this Panera Bread,  (pictured below) also in the commercial plaza development across from the closing Lockport MallPanera is brand new to Lockport and although the big sale items are a large variety of speciality breads, they also offer a variety of coffee (with free re-fills) and a cozy place to sit and chat or read while enjoying the bread, pasteries, light menu fare, and drinks.
