Commemorating 175 Years:
The Town Of Lockport Plate

Town Plate Hasley.jpg (52452 bytes)One of the little pleasures in life is stopping by a coffee shop in your home town and spotting an old friend.  You know the routine.  Handshakes, coffee + donut, and lots of talk.  That's exactly what happened out at Tim Horton's on South Transit on a Monday afternoon when the Lockport Page Photographer spotted Larry Hasley.

Larry served as Niagara County Legislator from the Town of Lockport for many years, and, before that, served on the Lockport Town Board.  He's been retired from GM for about 13 years now and is active in the Town of Lockport Historical Society.   He had with him one of the Commemorative Plates the Society is selling to mark the Town's 175th Anniversary.

The plate is white, even though the lighting at the donut shop might give it a slight blue cast in our pictures.  (That's a Tim Horton coffee cup on the left).

In addition to the plate, the Society has a commemorative trivet, usable as a hot plate or keepsake item with the same design.  Local artist, William Storrs, donated a pen and ink drawing of the Pomeroy School House, on Leete Road, to be used as the design on the both the plate and the trivet.  The profit from the yearlong sale of these items will help to fund the Town of Lockport Historical Society's preservation of the old school house.

Both the plates and the trivets are numbered, limited editions.   There are still some of both left, Larry says, and he'll be happy to see that you get one.  Locally the cost is $15 for the plates (numbered 1 to 175) and $6 for the trivets, also numbered.  If you are out of town, Larry can send them to you for the additional cost of shipping.  Just e-mail him at:  Larryscrds@aol.com  Larry will send you full details and let you know about shipping costs.  They are also available at the Town Clerk's Office.  But hurry, the anniversary year 1999 is almost gone---and so are the plates and trivets!

Yes, that is a beautiful gold rim around the plate!  They are true keepsake items.  If you've moved away, one of these on display in your new home will generate nice thoughts of your real home---back in Lockport!
