This picture, sent to us via .jpeg file attachment to an e-mail is
one of the finest we've published yet at the Lockport Home Page. The man
behind the camera was Lockportian Mike Donaldson.
We have a special love for good night photography. It is very hard to do with a digital camera. Mike used a fast 35-mm color film and some time exposure (with a good tripod) to capture this landmark scene from Niagara Falls, Ontario.
The subject of the photo is still there, awaiting your camera's focus. In fact Niagara Falls is loaded with picture opportunities. Those of us who live nearby can await just the right weather, sky, and lighting conditions to take some really fine classic views. But it's fun and worthwhile --- and more challenging --- to photograph under less than ideal conditions.
An example of some of the best professional photographs taken in the Lockport area are in the 2000 Year Rotary Lockport Canal Calendar. If you don't have one yet, a few are still on sale around town for $10. The 2001 calendar which will be out in November, we understand, will feature paintings, not photographs. (We'll have more info here at the Lockport Page).
Here's How This Page Will Publish
We intend to publish most all pictures you send to us as representative of your favorites. Lockport scenes, portraits, animals, family, etc. The ones that get the most website visitor response and interest will be held over for the longest publication runs. We will, in effect, create a rotating gallery of something like the "top ten photos."
We need your name and e-mail address with all photos. Normally we will credit your photo with your name. However, if you wish this withheld, we'll be happy to oblige. However, we'd appreciate a few comments with each picture that we can publish. Perhaps a description of the subject, the camera used, when taken, film and camera settings, etc. Such comments could vary from just general comments to technical details of the photography. If you send pictures that, in looking at them it is not obvious they were taken here on the Niagara Frontier, you need to explain in your comments the place the pictures were taken.
Please don't send us professional pictures you did not take! Don't send any copyrighted pictures unless you hold the copyright and can include a release. If you want your picture overprinted with your name, copyright, or other credit (such as how Mike Donaldson's name was printed on the frame to the left above) please let us know. We reserve the right to edit and reject any and all photos to keep with our standards. But because this is building to be a photo gallery, we will accept material that normally wouldn't be featured on the Lockport Home Page. See our standard instructions for sending us photos.
No, we don't pay or award any prize. The theme of this feature, like so much of the Lockport Community Website is "sharing." We do hope you'll find a photo to share!]
How many pictures do you have to share?
