Nearby Lewiston is a charming village. Many Lockportians love to take the 30-minute trip there and shop, go to Art Park, and, in the case of the Lockport Page photographer, walk along the Niagara River Gorge. Yes, we know. Lewiston's own Niagara County Legislator, Lee Simonson, when bringing in a gathering of a couple hundred people for his own business enterprise, selected the site as Niagara-On-The-Lake, a few miles downstream from here on the Canadian side of the river. Lee likes to talk the talk about boosting Niagara County but when given the opportunity he likes to use the bridge to Canada. And this is the bridge he'd probably use. It's the International Bridge at Lewiston (NY) to Queenston (Ontario).

Our Lockport Page photographer is down in the Niagara Gorge looking upstream. The Niagara River is moving very fast at this point as it rushes to Lake Ontario a few miles downstream at Youngstown (and Niagara-On-The-Lake). That's the Canadian Sir Adam Beck Power Station on the right (Canadian) side of the river. USA and Lewiston to the left. Along most of the Niagara Gorge, carved out by this river, are hiking trails which provide a beautiful nature experience. But be careful along here. Don't hike alone, don't hike at dark. Children under 18 should be under close adult supervision, the fall from the parts of the trail down the gorge to the water can be deadly. And for those who like to show off their cell phones in restaurants---this would be an area where you would be much more welcome to bring along your cell phone as an emergency option. But please don't talk on it if it's not an emergency. This is an area we need to listen to nature.
