Signs Of Lockport

Sign of Snow?

It is not rare that Lockport gets snow in November.  But it is early for such stuff. And that does look like light snow on the northern part of Hawley Street at Corinthia in Lockport.  The scene is Tuesday afternoon, November 8, 2005.   But the rest of the city is a mix of green on the ground, golden leaves dropping from trees, and temperatures near 50-degrees (F).  The street is not closed because of snow but because Lockport has been selected as the scene for a television commercial.

A New York City ad agency is here to film a holiday commercial for Hallmark Cards.  It will be appearing on national TV in the weeks ahead.  The east side of this block of Hawley Street has been sprayed with an artificial snow (a paper-like product) and you can see the coating being applied to a tree in the view above.  In the view below the light fake snow is being sprayed while a camera  pictures it with a house in the background.  Workers and an ad man stand by directing the operation.

At this date Lockport has yet to receive its first snow of the 2005-06 season.  The official forecast indicates, however, the possibility of some wet white stuff on Thursday, 11/10, before a warming and clearing trend on Friday.
