The view and memories below are of a bit of the north side of Main Street, between Pine and Market in the days before Urban Renewal gutted much of our downtown business district. From left to right there was at #67, Things Shoe Store (1947-1960)...#69 Joanly Shop (a/k/a Paris Fashion Shop)...#71 Singer Sewing Machine Shop...and #73 The Boot Shop. Yes, the Boot Shop was on the north side of Main before being moved to the south side as a part of Urban Renewal. Of course in the past ten years The Boot Shop, Lockport's last shoe store, just closed down. The sun still shines on the north side of Main but mostly on subsidized housing, a parking ramp, and an urban park. But David Ulrich has effected an beautiful restoration of the Lockport Exchange Bank Building and the sun shines next door on Mills Jewelers, a Lockport retailing success story. Back in the 50's when this picture was taken the entire north side was truly "The Sunny Side Of The Street" Thanks to Charlene Bower for the picture! ---Lou
