Pre-Urban Renewal

Shown in this Circa 1960's frame from the collection of Charlene Bower is a view of what a parking lot replaced.  In center frame is Rignel's Farm and Feed Store --- the same company which Urban Renewal moved out of downtown to the Lockport Plaza where it remains in business today.  The Kresge store was torn down and never relocated here.  Judd's News to the right of Rignel's (the former Plaster's News) moved across the street into a new set of higher rent store fronts to be constructed --- and finally went out of business.  The Tommy Tucker Bakery, to the left of Rignel's moved further south on Locust and across the street, and finally went out of business.   The building to the left of Kresge's was Lockport Office Equipment which moved into the Bewley Building.  The camera is looking northwest, showing just the west side of the street.  (10/2/00)
