Subject: A Simple Soldier
He was getting old and paunchy
And his hair was falling fast,
And he sat around the Legion,
Telling stories of the past.
Of a war that he once fought in
And the deeds that he had done,
In his exploits with his buddies;
They were heroes, every one.
And 'tho sometimes to his neighbors
His tales became a joke,
All his buddies listened quietly
For they knew where of he spoke.
But we'll hear his tales no longer,
For ol' Bob has passed away,
And the world's a little poorer
For a Soldier died today.
He won't be mourned by many,
Just his children and his wife.
For he lived an ordinary,
Very quiet sort of life.
He held a job and raised a family,
Going quietly on his way;
And the world won't note his passing,
'Tho a Soldier died today.
When politicians leave this earth,
Their bodies lie in state,
While thousands note their passing,
And proclaim that they were great.
Papers tell of their life stories
>From the time that they were young
But the passing of a Soldier
Goes unnoticed, and unsung.
Is the greatest contribution
To the welfare of our land,
Some jerk who breaks his promise
And cons his fellow man?
Or the ordinary fellow
Who in times of war and strife,
Goes off to serve his country
And offers up his life?
The politician's stipend
And the style in which he lives,
Are often disproportionate,
To the service that he gives.
While the ordinary Soldier,
Who offered up his all,
Is paid off with a medal
And perhaps a pension, small.
It's so easy to forget them,
For it is so many times
That our Bobs and Jims and Johnnys,
Went to battle, but we know,
It is not the politicians
With their compromise and ploys,
Who won for us the freedom
That our country now enjoys.
Should you find yourself in danger,
With your enemies at hand,
Would you really want some cop-out,
With his ever waffling stand?
Or would you want a Soldier--
His home, his country, his kin,
Just a common Soldier,
Who would fight until the end.
He was just a common Soldier,
And his ranks are growing thin,
But his presence should remind us
We may need his like again.
For when countries are in conflict,
We find the Soldier's part
Is to clean up all the troubles
That the politicians start.
If we cannot do him honor
While he's here to hear the praise,
Then at least let's give him homage
At the ending of his days.
Perhaps just a simply headline
In the paper that might say:
"OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURNING,
A SOLDIER DIED TODAY."

Funeral directors and families are urged to submit information of Lockportian deaths promptly so that a worldwide readership can be notified as soon as possible. Families should specifically ask their funeral directors to submit this information or do it themselves. Many funeral directors are not yet aware of the need to notify The New Media. Here at the Lockport Home Page we are set up to take this information 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week. Information is not taken by telephone but only in a written form by E-Mail, E-Mail attachment, FAX or S-Mail. Photographs will be published if requested.
An effort is made to include a former or maiden name when available. This name will show in (parentheses). However, these names are often unavailable from our sources. Notices are expanded to obituaries when the funeral director or family provides the additional information. Calling hours are listed (for a limited period) when provided by funeral directors.
If death information is not obtained from funeral directors, public or published sources, the source of the information is indicated. In the latter case every effort is made to confirm the reliability of the source. There is no charge for notices placed here. Submissions may be made by
E-mail to: Editor@Lockport-NY.com or by FAX to: 716-433-2358. S-Mail: P.O. Box 676, Lockport, NY 14095.
Memorial Tributes. The general public is invited to submit a brief written memorial tribute for any Lockportian who has passed on during the period covered by our listings. There is never a charge for these community services. Such submissions are especially sought immediately following the death. For those submitting: include name of deceased, date of death, your name and your E-Mail address. Send to: Editor@Lockport-NY.com
There is never a charge for death notices, full obituaries, memorial tributes, or pictures submitted to the Lockport Home Page.
Here are some tips to help you search for individuals who may have passed away.
Use your browser search function (there is no separate search engine available to you at this site). For the Microsoft Internet "Explorer" browser you search using "Find" which can be accessed from the "Edit" function at the top toolbar. Enter one word in the search box such as the individual's last name (exact spelling). Another name option is the maiden name or the last name from an earlier marriage. Enter just one name at a time. You may also search by employer. Enter a key word from the employer's name. Try different words. For example, for former employees of Delphi-Harrison there are many words to use. One at a time. Try, "HRD", "Delphi-Harrison", "Harrison" "Harrison's." There is no need to enter "Radiator" since that name would never be used alone to describe the Lockport operations of Delphi-Harrison. Such an employer search will yield the names of possible co-workers for the given year.
You must conduct a separate search for each page. Normally one year is all on one page. However, the current year may be divided into two pages. To search different years you must go to the web page we have assigned for that year. The links to past years are given in our "notes" section above.
If an individual is not listed here there is still the possibility they may have died in the year you are searching. Many times the families and funeral directors do not provide us with the information. Occasionally names are omitted from public papers. If the death was outside of Lockport the chances of it not being recorded here is big. We depend on family and friends to advise us. We welcome addition information, listings, and corrections from family and friends even years later. Listings only go back to 1996. We have no records going back further than 1996 which is the year we began publication. This is a free service by the Lockport Home Page but please don't ask us to give you any further information than is listed here---our all-volunteer staff doesn't have time to do death public record research.
Only those who are or were residents of Lockport City or Town, or having a Lockport mail address, are included in the Lockport Recent Deaths. Others are added to Greater Lockport Recent Deaths. The latter is a very incomplete listing showing at this time only those deaths of VIPs or those where the family or funeral director advises us. We make no search of public papers outside of Lockport proper.
