"The Lockport Bank"
There are many homes rich in history throughout the Lockport area. Even an apartment house can be an address for history in this community. Such is the case in Lockport's Lowertown section where, along Market Street, what was established in 1829 as "The Lockport Bank" is now an apartment house, complete with historic marker.

Up until
the establishment of "The Lockport Bank" business in Lockport had to depend on
banks in Buffalo or Rochester for service. Money at that time was a bit scarce and
barter was in common use. The view above shows what was, between 1829 and 1855,
"The Lockport Bank" and Niagara County's first bank. When it was
established the bank was capitalized at $100,000.
A historical marker on the front of the building duly notes the bit of Lockport history that began here.
The location is the southeast corner of Market and Chapel Streets. The front apartments look out, across the street, on a playground and the historic Erie Barge Canal. (7/18)
"The White House" On Locust
Even in a block consisting of some of the city's most beautiful homes, the residence of David and Jody Ulrich on Locust between Willow and Lincoln stands out. The house was expanded and underwent considerable renovation a few years ago. As you can see it is beautifully landscaped. Nighttime lighting effects are ever so tasteful. (5/4)
