The Lockport Senior High School Class of 1967 is having its 35th
year reunion Friday 7/19/02 at the Old Post Office and Saturday 7/20 at the Elks.
Friday will be a pizza, wings, beer and wine event with music provided by classmate Tom
Seekins "Seekins Sound". Saturday will be a pig roast with music again provided
by Tom. We have been planning for the past 18 months for these two events. We have been
holding reunions every 5 years since graduation. I think it's mainly because the
committee has so much fun during the planning process. Our class is an example of what's
good that came out of the turbulent 60's. We will always remain the LSHS Class of '67, we
never did want those Freshman in our school.

I know there are a lot of people in Lockport who knew him and have good memories of him that they could share with me. I was only 14 when he passed away. "Class of 1948 must have its Place on the
Shelf"
It's in the work. The Lockport Senior School Class of 1948's
Yearbook will be done shortly. I say shortly with a little help. You may ask why? or why
bother? or any number of other things. I think that the answer is that the Class of '48'
has pride. And we deserve our place in the sun (under a Library roof).
What started this? Well you can blame it on Eugene Tucker and Gerry Sharp and Frank
Bredell. I got an email from Frank after my previous posting on the Towpath. And excuse
the garbled posting as it just didn't appear to come out as it was written. Isn't
technology wonderful.
Anyway I won't post Frank's email. Since he gets in and out of here frequently I will ask
him to tell you what he found out at the Library.
What it does boil down to is that we "WE WEREN'T THERE".
Gerry Sharp sent me a couple of Towpaths. They are being dissected and copied. They
will be made for easy reading/looking and bound in a Yearbook style with our name,
"The Class of 1948" in gold (faux) on the cover. I would like to have our
classmates then make arrangements to present them to the Library and High School sometime
before the end of the year. We will be "shelved."
There will be enough titled blank pages at the end that 1948 Classmates will be
able to enter a personalized comment. i.e. "God how I hated Math" etc... This is
one time that the Librarian will allow you to write in a book. The Class of 1948 deserves
its place in history.
But your support is needed so let Gerry Sharp know or I. (gerry.sharp@worldnet.att.com or
myself at rel9lim@aol.com or 972.570.5358 in
case my computer is acting up again..
If you have a great shot of the High School it is needed. Out of the hundreds I
took I am still searching for one. There wasn't one in the Towpath or the Centennial
Edition. Let us hear from every one of you out there. Pass it on to those without
computers. (we haven't all gone mad) We can make this a '48 project that will be there
after we are gone.. Questions and ideas are in order...

Lockport High Class Of '48:
"Now Your Know The Rest Of The Story"
I just caught Gerry S's & Gene Tucker's comments on the lack of a YEARBOOK for the
Class of 1948. Imagine after all these years!
Hi Gerry, haven't heard from you in a multitude. I had the Honor of giving Gerry, then
Geraldine Butcher away in marriage to Lyman Sharp in Biloxi, Mississippi back in the 50's.
When I had walked Gerry down the aisle I told Lyman that I "didn't think I would give
her away, I would keep her." I think his face turned even a little whiter... But they
got married. Anyway I digress..
I was on the Forum staff as Photographer for a year. My Senior. They were looking for some
photographs of certain subjects. I found out that the Forum our graduating year was going
to be about the History of the Lockport Schools. Annnd that there were to be no photo's of
any of the clubs, the musical activities, special activities, the sports teams, the Hi-Y's
etc, etc, etc.. I can't print what I might have said about the whole project.
I felt that something had to be done. The Class of 48 was about to be ripped off by the
School Board which displayed little or no feelings for the Students of 48. I had just gone
thru another rip off and injustice by a Church organization that year and this was the
camel that broke the straw. I was also the Photographer for the Towpath, the monthly
student newspaper.
Marie Murphy was our faculty advisor. Good ol' Miss Murphy. She was one of the teachers
that you could talk to and feel that there was someone listening. There were a few others
at Lockport High. Anyway I said Miss Murphy I have an idea. I guess I let her have some of
my frustrations about the how the Class of 48 was being given the sh--- by the powers that
be. I said Miss Murphy can we double the size of the Towpath? John, she asked, "What
are we going to put in it."? I told her pictures.. All the pictures I could take. If
she would put in motion a schedule, after permission, to include the (and I have to do
this by memory since I can't put my fingers on my copy at the moment) clubs, choir, band.
orchestra, football team, basketball. swim, Hi-Y's, Cheerleaders, and God knows what all.
A set of bleachers was set up out in front of the High School. Actually I already had
pictures of some of the teams etc..Thank goodness. And to add even more pictures, If the
Towpath folks would set up ads I would get different Seniors into the Stores and we would
shoot a picture ad for that advertiser. I am not sure how we got as many as we did of
everything. Finals were
coming up. I was spending more time in the darkroom that I was in classroom. I think that
few people knew that there was a Darkroom on the third floor of the School. But it wasn't
equipped as well as the one that my Dad and I built in the old coal bin in the basement of
home. So I think that I was between home and school more times than I care to remember. I
think that I
ended up in one photograph of this final issue and it was taken by my brother. I couldn't
be in the pictures of the Club etc. if I was behind the camera. Don't ask if I have ever
forgiven the Board of Education for their oversight. I had many dear friends in those
organizations, many who are now gone.
SO LOOK FOR THE FINAL 1948 SENIOR CLASS ISSUE OF THE TOWPATH. If you are not pictured
there don't blame me. We need to thank Miss Murphy who went to bat for us and the Towpath
Staff that put it all together. I don't know what can be done today. There have got to be
copies somewhere. It could be reproduced for those if enough wanted a copy. A good project
for the Class of 1948. We were the can do class weren't we??? I don't think that we should
wait another 48 years though. I think I still have all of the negatives, which I haven't
looked at in years. Anyway, "Now You Know the Rest
of the Story."

Class Of '48 Got Cheated On Yearbook
In response to Gene Tucker's letter to the editor dated April 5, 2002, I agree with his
opinion of the yearbook for the class of 1948. Even the cover did not mention the fact it
was for our class. Not until page 70 was there mention of the year 1948. Apparently
whoever was on the yearbook committee had no say about the book. "They " should
have used the information concerning the 100 years of education for the 1947 yearbook
since 1947 appeared on the cover. I remember being disappointed in the book at the time
but what could we do about it ?

History Of Lockport Schools Took Over Class Of '48 Yearbook
I have just finished reading the articles on your website about the union schools in
Lockport. As anyone who graduated from Lockport High School in 1948 can tell you, the high
school yearbook for that year contained a long history of the Lockport schools. In fact,
that history took a large protion of that yearbook's pages, and we graduates for that year
resented every page.
I was just browsing through my copy and I have to admit that it was an impressive piece of
work if the history of our schools was important to you, but history wasn't the first
thing on our minds that year. There was almost nothing about our class except the photos
of we who were leaving the system that year. What it came down to was that the class of
'48 didn't have a yearboook we could call our own and we were mightily ticked off. From a
distance of 54 years,I suppose that sounds petty, but I think the reaction would be the
same for any graduating class.Check it out,I'm sure the Lockport Public Library has copies
of that yearbook.

LHS Class of '40. Birthday
Party Report. On Thursday, August 8th, 2002, 61 members and friends of the Class
of 1940 celebrated the year that most of them will turn 80 with a "Happy Birthday to
US" party at the Best Western Lockport Inn. Purple and silver balloons tied to purple
carnation filled vases, greeted the 'mates who came from near [Lockport, Newfane, Niagara
Falls, Middleport] and far [Rochester, Indiana, Connecticut and Florida]. Kevin Clark at
the piano provided the great music of the 40's to make the party special. The Birthday
Cake and Ice Cream reminded us of the many years we've sung the Birthday Song. There was a
lot of picture taking, and reminiscing of what life was like when we were growing up. All
of the arrangements for the celebration were the work of the Class Lunch people who meet
most third Wednesdays of the month year round. The next celebration will take place in
2005 when the class will meet for its 65th Reunion.
A copy of the Class's Graduation ceremony, a booklet from each of the reunions that have
been held, and an up-to-date list of the classmember addresses has been given to the LHS
Principal to be a part of the Alumni Records.

School Class of 1969 report on 30th reunion: We had a GREAT reunion. Tom
Wolfe was wrong; You can go home again! Old friendships were rekindled and hopefully
will become closer and carry us all on our way through middle age. The Ship-n-Shore
(which, incidentally, is owned and operated by our own Tom Class SCS69) was a wonderful
place to break the ice on Friday. Many of us had to guess or look at the name tag in
order to remember just who it was we were speaking with. Saturday at the Pendleton
House was fun. We would recommend to
all class reunions to dump the coat & ties and formal dresses. Casual attire
makes the evening much more lively.
Classmates came in from many places around the country and there were many still
relatively local. It was good to see those that came and we wished those that
couldn't attend would have been there. They were missed. We will all start
looking to another reunion earlier than 10 years.
There was one sad event. Donna Santarella, who worked so hard to see this event a
success and performed the Herculean task of documenting all of the addresses, lost her
father Friday night. She learned this on her way to the Friday event. She
never got a chance to enjoy either night. Donna, we all sincerely appreciate the
tireless work you did for us to make this reunion the best ever and we grieve with you in
your own personal loss. ---via e-mail from Jim Pittler

Class officers and organizers are urged to constantly include the Lockport Home Page on the distribution list of all class announcements. Send us everything that goes out on your "mailing list." Class members, please be sure your organizers know of the Lockport Home Page service. And please don't hesitate to send us information about yourself to share with classmates...or...to tip us off about class news.
It's An Electronic Data Age Now
You may have graduated LHS '49,
but today the world communicates most efficiently by electronic data transmission.
That means e-mail, and if needed, FAX. S-mail via the postal
service is not only slow but it takes us much more time here at the Lockport Page to
process. It also requires that someone scan your material or manually do the data
entry needed for publishing on the world wide web. Very time consuming for our
limited volunteers. All material is personally reviewed and edited but having it
received as e-mail makes it so much easier to work with.
If possible, please send all material to us by e-mail
in plain text. No graphics, no special formats, no attached files
(unless you get advance approval). If e-mail is impractical or unavailable, you may
send material by FAX.
E-Mail Address: Reunions@Lockport-NY.com
FAX Address: (716) 433-2358
If you have class publications, directories, etc. that you have no other way to send us, a postal box has been set aside to receive this material. It is a slow route but you may use:
Class Reunion Info
P.O. Box 54, East Amherst, NY 14051-0054
Please help us help your class stay in touch over the years and over the miles. Former residents of Niagara County in over 100 countries around the world (and 47 states) visit the Lockport Home Page to stay in touch. Help the process prosper by submitting information on your class, and yourself, on a regular basis. And be sure to tell your classmates about our addresses for class reunion information on the World Wide Web.
Don't wait for a class reunion to come
home.
We're here to welcome you every day...every hour.
