Kitchen World Fire Site Finally Cleared

It has taken about a year but the former home of Kitchen World on Dysinger Road has been cleared of the burned out showroom structure. The business was the victim of an arson fire attributed to an unhappy ex-employee. The sales showroom has since been relocated to South Transit Road. (4/11/06)
Reasonable
Access at Jackie's.
Motorists who are used to seeing nearly all the best parking spots empty because they are reserved for "Handicapped" parking will find the situation at Jackie's Restaurant, Dysinger Road, in Lockport Town of interest.
There are two spots with excellent border guards on one side for
vans or other vehicles that need side room to load/unload. One is at the curb in
front of the restaurant and the other
is in the next row back. All other parking slots are unrestricted.
Jackie's used to be located in the Lockport Plaza, having taken over the
former Spartan Restaurant facility (which is now vacant).

New Radio Tower at Water Tower Site Contractors have put up a new radio tower (picture below) at the site of the small Niagara Water District water tank in the Town of Lockport on Dysinger Road, near Snyder Drive and South Transit. (2/4/06)
Cheryl
Antkowiak named to fill vacancy on Town Board. The longtime Republican, who
has been serving on the Town Recreation Committee, will get the seat vacated by Marc Smith
when he was elected Town Supervisor. The board seat had reportedly been sought, for
a time, by State Senator George Maziarz's protégé, Michael Norris. Antkowiak
will stand for election to the post in the fall. She was an unsuccessful candidate
for a town justice position in 2003 and works as a hairdresser. (2/3/06)
Ex-Mayor Sullivan to work for the Town? The former Lockport City Mayor, Tom Sullivan is reported attempting to get hired by the Town of Lockport as a "grants writer." Sullivan has been working as an auto parts salesman. He was known to be very cooperative with the Town when heading up city government. One of the major accomplishments of his administration was authorizing about $15,000 of city taxpayer money to be used to start up an Internet website which was shared with the Town. Sullivan made the deal after turning down an offer from the Lockport Home Page for a free city website. There are published rumors in Lockport that Sullivan, who was defeated in his bid for re-election, is considering the sale of his city home and moving out into the Town. (1/31/06)

Lockport Town Offices at Beattie & Dysinger Road---Possible new base for ex-city Mayor, Tom Sullivan?
Town wilderness park victim of petty politics. The 100+acre wilderness park, established through the advocacy and hard work of town booster, Dick Gallagher has come on hard times. Upkeep is down, attendance is down, and Gallagher is no longer the custodian of the nature treasure. More than a year ago petty politics and bickering among town employees finally led to Mr. Gallagher giving up the job. The past summer was a very obvious example of what happens when things get too political. The town's other park, off Day Road, is a non-happening. Little has been done to develop it over the past three years despite a lot of publicity at the outset of the project. (11/9/05)
Villa Restaurant...gone. It was a nice pizza and Italian Food eatery when at the corner of Elm and East Avenue in downtown Lockport. Then, it left the city for a more low-traffic location out on Akron Road in the Town of Lockport. Now it is closed and the Akron Road property is for lease. Downtown, an antique store enters its third year at the corner location which is a part of the Palace Theatre building. (11/5/05)
Never-Never Land. Call it a political
ploy. This is the scene of Niagara County-owned land off Day Road where Lockport
Town Supervisor Austin declared some years ago that He would build a park for the Town of
Lockport as one of the keypoints of his administration. Not to matter that the land
would come from the County and very little would be spent from Town funds. As you
can see in this October 2005 photo, years later nothing much was ever done at the site by
the Town except grading with stone. The Niagara County Public parks, golf course,
and aero field are adjacent. It is not known if Austin's name will appear on the
site or, if it will ever amount to anything other than a wanna-be bragging point for
Austin. Austin's term as Supervisor ends with 2005. Most Town residents still
use Lockport City parks and/or County parks (at no charge) for their recreational needs,
keeping taxes in the town low.(10/24/05)
